Team Roles and Responsibilities

SMDS governance and operations rely on clearly defined roles. This page describes the key roles involved in master data management within Maersk.

Data Steward

  • Scope: Ensures data quality, consistency, and compliance across master data domains
  • Key activities:
    • Maintain golden records and resolve duplicates
    • Define and enforce validation rules
    • Monitor data quality metrics
    • Support MDM Operations (MDM OH)
  • Contact: MDM OH Teamsite — MDM OH Team

Business Owner

  • Scope: Owns business requirements and approval for domain-specific changes
  • Examples by domain:
    • Customer: Commercial and Sales teams
    • Vendor: Procurement, AP
    • Geography: Trade, Regulatory
    • Facility: Terminal Operations, Logistics
    • Vessel: Fleet Management, Operations
    • Commodity: Cargo, HS/IMDG classification
  • Key activities: Define business rules, approve workflows, prioritize enhancements

Consumer

  • Scope: Systems and applications that consume SMDS data via API, EMP, database read replica, or datalake
  • Requirements: Must comply with Integration Access Guide — design doc, platform approval, contacts, and governance

Integration Approver

  • Scope: Reviews and approves integration requests (API, EMP, DB, Datalake)
  • Key activities: Validate design, confirm ownership, approve access, ensure compliance (GDPR, data residency)
