SMDS-Geography Portal (UI Application)
Geography Roles & Azure Groups
There are many Azure AD groups. Each Azure AD group has a one-to-one mapping with the Geography roles.
The users have to be added to the corresponding groups to get the relevant role privileges.

Geography User Interface
Prerequisites
The user should have an active Azure account. The user should have the Facility role(s) to access the SMDS Facility UI. If the user doesn’t have sufficient Facility roles, they’ll see the following UI when trying to open the application, they can raise a SNOW ticket to get access.
Login
The user has to give the Microsoft credentials to log in.
After the valid User Id and Password are provided, authentication will take place and once it's a success, the User will see the Geo landing page.
Logout
To log out from the application click on the user profile icon in the application header, and then click on the “Logout” option present in the drop-down. To refresh the roles assigned to the user, logging out and refreshing the window is important.
Geography Search Criteria
User will able to search by name, status, code type , city or country. User will able to search facility with the combination of fields such as Continent + Country, Name + city , Name + Site. Etc,.
Search by Name :
Continent: The highest hierarchy of locations in Geography master data. Serves as a parent to Country.
There are currently 7 existing and active continents in Geo master data. A continent in Geo master data is represented by :
· Continent Name
· Continent Code
· Continent GEOID
Country : In Geography Master data, a country is an independent state with its own country code that is identified thru the official list of UN Site: https://unece.org/trade/cefact/unlocode-code-list-country-and-territory . A country is a child of a continent.
A country in Geo master data is represented by :
· Country Name
· Dialling Code
· RKST Code
· RKTS Code
· GEOID
· Parent (continent)
State/Province : State or Province is a heirarcy in Geography Master data that serves as a child to a country, or a parent to city to 20 countries. State or Province is established in Geography master data depending on the business requirement ,State or Province is properly identified thru https://www.iso.org/iso-3166-country-codes.html
A state/province in Geo master data is represented by :
· State/Province Name
· State/Province Code
· ISO Territory Code
· GEOID
· Parent (country)
City : A city in Ocean Geography master data is a hierarchy to which customers are able to place their booking, or be used as an address detail when creating a customer or a facility record in both Facility Master data and CMD. It is also used for pricing for intermodal processes, and also being used for assigning service areas and routes for cost calculation of a booking. It is currently a child of either a country or a state/province.
There are currently at least 80k existing and active cities being used for all processes and downstream applications of OCEAN. A city is currently represented by:
· City Name
· RKST Code
· RKTS Code (non-mandatory)
· UNLOC Code (non-mandatory)
· GEOID
· Parent (Country, state/province)
Geography Site : It is a hierarchy in Master data that is specific for the container movements or Vessel Schedules in Ocean Master data. It is being used for Equipment pickups, gate in and outs, schedules for rail, barge and terminals.
Postal Code : It is the lowest hierarchy of a location which currently serves for the purpose of customer or facility creation in CMD or Operational facilities. It is a series of alpha or numeric combination that identifies a specific address of a record. A postal code is currently represented by:
· Postal name
· Postal Code Code
· GEOID
· Parent (country, state/province, city)
BDA Type:
BDA Type is a clearly defined geographic area that can be drawn or mapped out using coordinates, postal codes, or administrative boundaries (e.g., city, county, state).
Business Defined Area (BDA) is a geographically defined zone that a business uses for operational or strategic purposes, whether it’s for targeting customers, optimizing logistics, or analyzing regional performance. It allows businesses to leverage geographical data to make more informed decisions and allocate resources efficiently.
Time Zone: It is a geographic entity in Geography master data where it identifies the specific offset time of a country, state/province or city from. Its format is sent in offset minutes in a UTC format.
Daylight Saving Time : It is a geographic entity in Geography master data where it identifies the adjusted offset time of a country, state/province or city, from its standard time to achieve longer evening daylight thru summer. Its format is sent in start and end date, and its additional offset minutes in UTC format. Daylight Saving time is refreshed twice a year, one for Northern and the other for Southern Hemisphere countries.
Note:
Users can paginate the results accordingly at their convenience. The pagination buttons can be found at the bottom of search results.
User can open Geo record after clicking on Action → “Open”.
Geo export
User can select appropriate Geo for export and data would be exported into an Excel.
Edit Geo data
Firstly , user should have appropriate edit access. User can open record by clicking on action → Open.
Note:
'Edit' button will make the attributes editable. 'Save' button can be clicked when there are no errors in that particular section. 'Cancel' button can be clicked to reset the form changes of that particular section. User will have option to add and delete for section (i.e Geo type, BDA, Alternate Codes,Alternate Names and Parent) If there is any cross validation or form data error, then the 'Save' button will be disabled only & the relavant error message would be shown in the form.
'Save' button on the tab will be enabled only if there are no any form errors in any tab.
Create Geodata
User can create a new Geo record by clicking on “Create City,Country, State ,BDA and Postal code etc.,”.
Geo history
User can see the historical data of the Geo by clicking the “Record History” button User has to give the desired From and To date for audit history.
Geo Bulk Upload for city,Postal code
As data maintainer, user should be able to load the data collected in excel template as attached below (also called as BBu tempalte ) and upload it to Geo application to create a new record and update existing.
